Orange City is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 10,599. It is a part of the DeltonaDaytona Beach ormond Beach metropolitan area. The city was named for the thousands of acres of orange groves in and around the city. John D. Rockefeller Sr. had Orange City Mineral Springs water sent to him wherever he traveled, and even used it for bathing. Orange City is located at 28°5629N 81°1734W and has a total area of 7.2 square miles (18.6 km²) The city has a councilmanager government. The fire department was recently awarded a ISO 2 class rating, which means it is a combination of paid and volunteer fire stations. The U.S. Postal Service operates a post office at 260 N Industrial Drive. The mayor and six council members are elected by voters within the corporate limits of Orange City and must reside within the city limits. The main administration is housed at 68-end water plant, which is not accessible for the public, and also is also the main administration where the main water plant is housed. The Fire Department, established in 1890, consists of two fire stations; 67, located at 215 N Holly Ave, also is where the administration is located. The City has a fire station at 67-end fire station, also located at the south-end of the water plant. It has a library and park, which was established in 1882.

Geography

Orange City received the "highest award that the world can give" for its water at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. John D. Rockefeller Sr. had Orange City Mineral Springs water sent to him wherever he traveled, and even used it for bathing. The city was named for the thousands of acres of orange groves in and around the city. Orange City is located at 28°5629N 81°1734W. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.2 square miles (18.6 km²) of which 7.1 square miles are land and 0.077 sq miles (0.2 km²), or 1.31%, is covered by water. It was incorporated as a city in 1882 and named after the orange trees for which the town was named. It is located on the National Register of Historic Places in Orange City. It has a population of 2,816. It also has a post office with a ZIP code of 47215. The town is located in the Ouachita National Forest, which is part of the South Dakota Panhandle. The state of Oklahoma is in the Southwestern United States, and the city is located near the border with South Dakota, Kansas, and Nebraska. It had a population in the United States Census Bureau in the year 2000 of 1,817. It's located on Interstate 40, which runs from north to south through Orange City and into the town of Piedmont.

Demographics

In the census of 2000, 6,604 people, 3,062 households, and 1,904 families resided in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 92.97% White, 3.66% African American, 0.38% Native American,0.56% Asian, 1.47% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. About 5.13% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. Of the total population, 15.2% were under the age of 18 and 7.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. The city's median income was $26,883, and for a family was $34,003. In the city, the median age was 49 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.5 males. For each 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.9 males. The per capita income for the city in the 2000 census was $16,318. About 9.9% of. the population and 7.1% of families were below the Poverty Line. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was2.63. The population density was 1,091.4 inhabitants per square mile (421.4/km²). The 3,685 housing units averaged 609.0 per squaremile (235.2/km 2). Government and infrastructure

The City of Orange City has a councilmanager government. The city council is composed of a mayor and six council members who serve overlapping four-year terms. The United States Postal Service operates a post office at 260 N Industrial Drive. The Orange City Fire Department, established in 1890, is a combination department (volunteer and paid). The department consists of two fire stations; station 67, located at 215 N. Holly Ave, is also the main station where administration is housed. Station 68 is located at the south-end water plant. This is a secured facility and not accessible for the public. The department was recently awarded a class 2 ISO rating, first and only in Volusia County. All engines and the Rescue are ALS supplied and staffed with paramedics. The fire department is contracted to provide fire services to the City of DeBary, Florida (Station 33) The city is served by the #20, #21, #22, & #23 routes operated by VolUSia County Public Transit System. The mayor and council members are elected by voters citywide and must reside within the corporate limits ofOrange City. The council is responsible for establishing policies, adopting an annual budget, adopting local laws and ordinances, and hiring and overseeing the city manager, city attorney, and municipal clerk. It is the only city in Florida that has a city manager and a city attorney on the same staff. It has a mayor-council relationship, with the mayor being responsible for appointing the city attorney and city clerk.
