Sagamore Beach is a village in Bourne, Massachusetts fronting Cape Cod Bay and the east end of the Cape Cod Canal. Along with Buzzards Bay and Bournedale, it is one of the three communities in Barnstable County that are north of the Canal. The Wampanoag people were the principal tribe of this area. A heavily used trail crossed the area, which the indigenous peoples used to reach the eastern reaches of Cape Cod. The area was settled by Europeans as early as 1637. Victorian homes built on the bluffs in that era are still present on the shoreline. In 1905, the Christian Endeavor Society founded a summer colony here. The Sagamor Beach Colony Club, established in 1909, continues as a community resource today. The names of many streets and roads in Sagamore beach reflect the names of the indigenous people of the area: Tecumseh, Siasconset, Sachem, Scusset, Manomet, Indian Trail, Indian Hill and Fox Run. It also adjoins Scussett Beach State Reservation. It occupies the northern half of the Sagamores census-designated place. It is largely a residential area with a small commercial district near the Sag amore Bridge and Massachusetts Route 3A. Parking and access to the CapeCod Canal service road are available on Canal Road. It was initially a village, Sandwich was divided to create the town of Bourne in 1884. The dredging for the Capecod Canal had already begun and SagamORE Beach became the Village of Bourn.

Sagamora and sachem are Native American names for a man or woman who is a leader in the tribe. The village was established in 1637 and became the village of Sandwich on Cape Cod in 1642. The first European to arrive in the area in 1638 was the Mayflor. The Mayflower landed in Plymouth in 1640. The area was first settled by the Wampanos in 1636. The population of Sagamoor Beach was about 2,000 in the mid-19th century. It has grown to about 4,000 today.
