Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is home to the main campuses of Central Michigan University, one of the largest universities in the state with 20,000 students. Part of the city is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation. Despite its name, the surrounding area is mostly flat and does not feature any mountains or hills. In 1928, large quantities of oil were discovered in the Mt. Pleasant area. Although oil resources eventually diminished, this legacy is represented in the Mount. Pleasant city seal, which includes an image of an oil drill. Mt.. Pleasant High School's mascot, the Oiler, also refers to the city's history of oil production. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.2 square miles, which is 009 square miles (20.28 km) land and 009 sq miles (23.23 km) water. The Chippwewa River runs through the city, approximately 61 miles (98 km) north of Lansing, Michigan's state capital, along with the Michigan Turnpike and the Detroit River. In 2010, there were 26,016 people living in Mount Pleasant, and 3,100 families living in the city; the population was 3,361.
History
Mount Pleasant is the primary city name, but also Mt Pleasant are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Until the mid-19th century, this area was occupied by historical bands of the Ojibwa people, known by English speakers as the Chippewa. In the early decades of the century, they ceded vast amounts of land to the United States government, which wanted to enable settlement by European Americans. The Homestead Act of 1862 also attracted many new settlers to Mount Pleasant, including new European immigrants, who worked to develop their stake on free lands offered by the US government. The U.S. government opened an Indian boarding school called the Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School. In 1928, large quantities of oil were discovered in the Mt. Pleasant area. A farm owned by the Lilly family was the first to strike, producing hundreds of barrels a day. Although oil resources eventually diminished, this legacy is represented in the Mount. Pleasant city seal, which includes an image of an oil drill. Mt.. Pleasant High School's mascot, the Oiler, also refers to the city's history of oil production. On July 17, 2009, the White Bison Wellbriety Journey for Forgiveness made a stop in the city to recognize this part of the history. The school operated for 40 years, closing in 1933. It is the largest campus of the state system, with 20,000 students in the 21st century. In 1890, W.A. Jordan started Mount Pleasant Business College. Expanding in 1892, it changed its name to Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute.

The city is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan and the Upper peninsula of Michigan. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the city has a population of 1,071. It is located on the Michigan Turnpike, one of the state's main north-to-south roads. It has a latitude and longitude of 61.5°N and a latitude of 20.4°S. It was founded in 1805. The town's name is derived from Mount Pleasant, Michigan, which was once the site of the town's first post-Civil War settlement. The name Mount Pleasant means "mountain" or "hill" in German. It also means "pumpkin" in English and "mound" in Spanish. The community's nickname is "Mount Pleasant" and its name means "mansion" in the German language. The area's name comes from the Mount Pleasant Township, where the town was once part of the Lower Peninsula, where it was first founded. The current name is "Mt Pleasant" in honor of the city's founder, William Mount Pleasant (1805-1855).

The city has a population of 25,946, with 11.5% under the age of 18, 54.1% from 18 to 24, 16.9%. from 25 to 44, 10.2%. from 45 to 64, and 7,3% who were 65 years of age or older. Transportation
US 127 is a major northsouth route connecting with Lansing and Jackson to the south and with Clare and Grayling to the north. US 127 (Mission Street) is a loop route traveling through the heart of the city, connecting with US 127 at each end. M-20 continues east to Midland and Bay City and west toward Big Rapids. Mount Pleasant Municipal Airport is located 2 mi (3.2 km) northeast of the central business district. The city is home to the Mount Pleasant High School football team, which won the state championship in 2010. The school's football field is located in the city's downtown area. The football team won the Michigan State Championship in 2010, the first time it has done so in the state's history. The team also won the NCAA Division II championship in the same year. The high school football team has won two state championships in the last three years, in 2010 and 2011. The town's basketball team won its first state title in the 2010-11 season, in the 2007-08 season, and the 2012-13 season. The U.S. Army National Guard is based in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and has a training base in the town. It is also home to a number of military bases, including Fort Bliss and Ypsilanti, as well as the Michigan Air National Guard. The Mount Pleasant Air Force Base has a base that was established in the 1950s. It was the first base in Michigan to be fully operational in the 1960s.

The town has a population of about 1,500 people, about 1.5 per cent of whom are first generation citizens. It is located on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, near the border with Michigan's Lower Peninsula and the city of Kalamazoo. It also has a small downtown area, which is home to a number of businesses, including a bank, a high school and a community center. The city has a history of being the site of the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in 1836. It was also the scene of the Great Depression, which began in earnest in the late 19th century. The area is known as "The Birthplace of the Red River" and was the birthplace of Michigan's first president, John C. Calhoun. It's also known as the "Birthplace of Music" and "The birthplace of the American Renaissance," which dates back to the 17th century, when the first European settlers arrived in the area. The community is known for its musical traditions, including the founding of several bands.
