Chagrin Falls is a village in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Cleveland in Northeast Ohio's Cleveland-Akron-Canton metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 4,104. The community takes its name from a series of waterfalls along the Chagrin River, which runs through the town. The town is referenced in the song "How Can You Be So Grateful?" by the band Tragically Hip. The Chagrins are a non-existent club in the band's 1998 album "The Phantom Power of the Town" The town has one of the oldest community theaters in the country, with the oldest such theater being in existence since 1930. The village has a total area of 2.14 square miles (5.54 km²) of which 2.08 square miles is land and 0.06 square miles are covered by water. It has a population of 4,000. The median income for a household in the village was $62,917, and for a family was $90,094. In the village, the population was distributed as 22.2% under age 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The per capita income for the village is $42,885. About 2.4% of families and 3% of the population were below the poverty line.

History

Chagrin Falls is the primary city name, but also Auburn Township, Auburn Twp are acceptable city names or spellings, Bainbridge Township on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Chagrin Falls was laid out in 1837. The community takes its name from a series of waterfalls along the Chagrin River, which runs through the town. The town has a population of about 2,000. It is located at the base of a waterfall known as the "Waterfalls of the World" The town is located on the banks of a river that flows through the center of the town, called the "Chagrins River" It is also known as "The Falls of the West" because of the waterfalls that run through the area. The Chagins River is a tributary of the Ohio River, and runs through Chagin Falls, which is located near the town's center. The waterfall is known for its spectacular views of the sun setting over the Ohio Valley and setting in the west. The falls are also known for their spectacular views at night, when the sun sets over the western part of the U.S. and sets in the east. The river is a popular tourist destination, especially in the summer. It was named after a waterfall in the area, which was first documented in 1788. The waterfalls are still visible to this day, and can be seen from a distance up to a mile away. They are called "The Waterfalls of The World" and are located in the western section of the city, near the village of Chaggin, Ohio. They were first discovered in the 17th century by a German explorer.

It was founded in the early 1800s and was named after the town's founder, John G. G. "Jack" Gahran, who was born in the village in 1805. The current mayor of the town is John J. O'Neill, who has served as mayor since 1989. The city is home to a number of historic buildings, including the former home of President John F. Kennedy, who died in office in 1963. It also has a National Register of Historic Places site, which dates back to the 18th century. It has a post office, which was established in 1838, and was later expanded to serve the city of Cleveland in 1852. The U.N. World Heritage Site is also located in the town, and is known as the "World Heritage Site of the United States" The village's name is derived from the word "Gahran", which means "gorgeous" or "densely populated".

The racial makeup of the village was 98.0% White, 0.4% African American 0.8% Asian,0.1% Pacific Islander, and 0.5% from two or more races. Arts and culture

The town is referenced in the song Chagrin Falls by the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip on their 1998 studio album Phantom Power. The fictional town of Angel Falls, Ohio, which is featured in the three-book Angel Falls series by Miranda Liasson, is partly modeled after Chagin Falls. The town is mentioned by the character Ted Mosby, who claimed to have lifeguarded there, in How I Met Your Mother (S5-E11) The 1977 television film The Gathering was filmed in Chagina Falls. It is the name of a recurring subseries in the comic Tom the Dancing Bug, probably in honor of Bill Watterson. The famed Popeye comic strip called Chagriin Falls home while it was being drawn by the Hungarian-American Cartoonist, Bela "Bill" Zaboly. The Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is one of the oldest community theaters in the country, having been in existence since 1930. It hosts one of Northeast Ohio's longest-running annual swim meets each summer. It has been held each summer since 1968. It's also the home of the Chagrine Valley Invitation Relays, which have been held every year since 1968, and are the longest running annual swim meet in the state. It was also the birthplace of Ohio's first professional football team, the Cleveland Indians, which won the World Series of football in 1988. The city is also the site of the Ohio State University's wrestling team, which has won the National Wrestling Championship seven times.
