As of the 2020 census, the city population was 32,442. North Olmsted is a west side suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and is the 8th most populated city within Cuyahoga County. The city has a total area of 11.67 square miles (30.23 km²), all land. In 1909 the city was named in honor of Aaron Olmstead, a wealthy sea captain who bought the land in 1806. The land was originally part of the French colony of Canada (New France), which was ceded in 1763 to Great Britain and renamed Province of Quebec. In the late 18th century the land became part of. the Connecticut Western Reserve in the Northwest Territory, then was purchased by the Connecticut Land Company in 1795. In 1826, Aaron Ol msted's son offered to donate books from his father's personal collection in Connecticut, if the residents of Lenox agreed to change the name of the area to Olmsted to honor his father. The people organized into a township called Lenox on April 14, 1823, and the city came into being in 1909. The population of the city in the 2010 census was 32.718, with 14,390 housing units at an average density of 1,233.1 per square mile (476.0/km²). The racial makeup of theCity was 86.4% White, 3.1% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.8% Asian, 1.6% from other races, and 6.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 5.0%. In the city, 20.9% of residents were under the age of 18.

History

The land that became North Olmsted was originally part of the French colony of Canada (New France) In 1815, David Johnson Stearns of Vermont was followed by other pioneers from New England who established a settlement in the wilderness. It was first called Plum Creek Township, an unofficial name, in 1807 and then in 1814 surveyors called it Kingston. On April 14, 1823 the people organized into a township called Lenox. In 1909, the city of NorthOlmsted came into being. In 1826, the residents of Lenox agreed to change the name of the area to Olmstead to honor his father. These books became known as the Ox Cart Library. The town of Northolmsted has a population of about 3,000. It is located in the Connecticut Western Reserve in the Northwest Territory, then was purchased by the Connecticut Land Company in 1795. The land was originally called the "Western Reserve" and later the "Northwest Territory" and the "New England Western Reserve" in the 18th century. The name Olmsted was adopted by the town in 1826 to honor the late sea captain Aaron OlMsted, who bought the land in 1806 for $30,000 and named it after his home town of Olmstsed, Connecticut. The current name of North olmsted is "Olmstead" and it is located on the banks of the Connecticut River in the town's eastern section. The city's name is derived from the word "olm" which means "land" or "settlement".

Geography

North Olmsted is located at 41°2454N 81°5452W (41.415097, -81.914366).According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.67 square miles (30.23 km²), all land. The city is home to the North Olmstead Symphony Orchestra, which has been in existence since the early 1900s. The orchestra is based in the town's historic North Olmsted Building, which dates back to the 17th century. It is also known as the North Omsted Opera House, which was built in the 19th century. It was the first opera house in the United States, and the first in the world to be built on the site. It has been the site of numerous other major events, including the Winter Olympics and the Winter Games, as well as the Winter Paralympic Games and other major international events. The North OlMsted Symphony Orchestra was founded in the late 19th century and is still in operation today. The town's name is derived from the North Pole, where it was named after the North American city of the same name. It also has been known as "Olmstead" or "Omststed" by some locals, and as "Nolmsted" in other parts of the U S. and "Olivia" by others. The City has a population of 2,856.

Demographics

At the 2020 census there were 32,442 people in 13,093 households, including 8,325 families, in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 86.4% White, 3.1% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.8% Asian, 1.6% from other races, and 6.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 5.0%. 20.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6%. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.04. The median age was 44.4 years. 19.9%. of residents were under the Age of 18; 7.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.5% were from 25 to 44; 30.1%. were from 45 to 64; and 17.8%. were 65 or older. The city's population was 32,718 at the 2010 census. At the 2000 census, there were 34,113 people in. 13,517 households, and 9,367 families. The population density was 2,932.9 people per square mile (1,132.5/km²). There were 14,059 housing units at an average density of 1,208.7 per squaremile (466.7/km²). The city had a population of 32,000 at the 2000 Census. At that time, the city's racial makeup was 93.97% White.

Business

Moen Incorporated, a fixture and faucet company, is headquartered in North Olmsted. CommutAir, a regional airline flying on behalf of United Express, is also headquartered in the city. The city is home to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the University of Michigan's football team. The U.N. Children's Museum is also located in the town. The town's population is about 6,000 people, according to the city's 2010 population report. It has a population of 2,000. The City of Olmstead has a history of being the site of several World War II-era battles, including the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle for the Bulleit. The community also has a long history of hosting the Ulysses Games, which began in 1881. The North OlMsted High School football team won a gold medal in the 1940s and 1950s. It also won a silver medal in 1959 and 1960, and a bronze medal in 1961. The village also has been home to a number of other businesses, including a bank, a bank and a car dealership.

Traveling

Lorain Road is part of Ohio Route 10 and Ohio Route 252. It enters the city from North Ridgeville to the west and from Fairview Park to the east. It is probably North Olmsted's busiest street. A section of Lorain Road was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most restaurants within a mile radius. It runs eastwest through the city with many businesses on the road. It connects via connector road with the Ohio Turnpike at Exit 152. It then continues through Cleveland, where it is designated "Lorains Avenue" It is one of the busiest roads in the city of Cleveland, with many restaurants on it. It also runs through the Cleveland suburb of Mentor. It ends at Lorain Avenue in Mentor, which is a suburb of Cleveland. The road is also known as Ohio's "Main Street" and "Ohio's Main Street" It also connects with Ohio's Ohio "Main" and Ohio "Main" roads, which are the main roads in Cleveland and Akron, respectively. It has a number of minor roads, such as Ohio Route 252, Ohio Routes 10 and Ohio  Route 11, as well as Ohio Route 10. It was once a part of the U.S. National Highway System, but is no longer part of it. Lorain Road and Ohio Route 10 are now two separate roads, Ohio State Route 252 and Ohio State Route 10 and Ohio  Route 10.
