The city was named after the local Clear Lake. Clear Lake is located at 44°4519N 96°416W (44.755248, -96.684950). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.25 square miles (8.42 km²), of which 3.07 sq miles (7.95 km²) is land and 0.18sq miles (0.47 km²") is water. The Crystal Springs Rodeo is one of the largest rodeos in the area, drawing thousands of people each year. It is held each June at the end of June, drawing the most people in the nation to the town. The rodeo is held at Crystal Springs Ranch, which is located in the town of Crystal Springs, about 30 miles south of the city. The town has a population of 1,273, according to the 2010 census.
