Dallas is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,692 at the 2020 census. The local government describes the borough as the "Pride" of the Back Mountain. The area includes the townships of Dallas, Franklin, Jackson, Kingston, Lake, and Lehman. The region also includes the boroughs of Dallas and Harveys Lake. Dallas is in the vicinity of Misericordia University and Dallas State Correctional Institution (which holds 2,150 inmates).Dallas was first settled in 1797. It was later incorporated as a borough on April 21, 1879, from land entirely within Dallas Township. The township had been formed in 1817 and was named for Alexander J. Dallas, who was the 6th United States Secretary of the Treasury and the father of George M. Dallas. Most of Dallas is urbanized; however, there are pockets of forests scattered throughout the borough. PA 309 and PA 415 travel through the northern and eastern sections of Dallas. The Huntsville Reservoir makes up the communitys southwestern border. The borough has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²), of which 2.3 square miles of land is land and 0.1 square mile (0.26 km²) is water. The median household income was $48,696 and the median family income was $57,344. About 3.5% of families and 5.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.0% of those under age 18.

History

Dallas is the primary city name, but also Monroe Township, Monroe Twp are acceptable city names or spellings, College Misericordia on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Dallas, Pennsylvania. Dallas was first settled in 1797. It was later incorporated as a borough on April 21, 1879, from land entirely within Dallas Township. The township had been formed in 1817 and was named for Alexander J. Dallas, who was the 6th United States Secretary of the Treasury and the father of George M. Dallas. The borough was formed from land that had been part of Dallas Township, which had been established in 18 17. It is located on the banks of the Susquehannock River, which flows into the Allegheny River. It has a population of about 2,000. The city is home to the New Jersey Museum of Art and Science, which was founded in 1903. The museum is located in the historic district of Dallas, New Jersey, which dates back to the 17th century. It also has a museum of art and science called the Museum of American Art, which opened in 1805. The town's name is derived from the city of Dallas in Pennsylvania, where the city was originally founded in 1798. The current borough was incorporated in 1879 from land in Dallas Township that was originally part of the township. It had been named for Dallas, the father and 6th U.S. Secretary of Treasury, and the vice president of James Polk, who died in 1847. The population of the borough was 2,715 at the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau Estimated Population for Dallas was 2,716. Dallas is located in Pennsylvania's Piedmont region, which includes the towns of Dallas, Lehman, and West Point. The city's population for the 2010  Census  Bureau estimated was 2,787. The U.N. World Health Organization estimates the population for Dallas to be 2,917. The United States Census Bureau estimates the community's population to be 3,717. Dallas has an area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km²), of which 2.3 is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km²), or 3.78%, is water.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.66% of the population. The median household income was $48,696 and the median family income was $57,344. The per capita income for the Borough was $24,466. About 3.5% of families and 5.8% of people were below the poverty line, including 6.0% of those under age 18 and 4.7% ofThose age 65 or over. The borough is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs from New Jersey to New Jersey. It is one of the few towns in New Jersey that does not use the New York City subway system. It has a population of about 2,500, making it one of only a handful of towns in the state with a population over the age of 2,000. The city's population is about 1,800, with the majority of people aged 18 to 64.
