Chalfont is a borough with home rule status in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The population was 4,009 at the 2010 census. The borough is served by SEPTA Regional Rail's Lansdale/Doylestown Line at Chalfont station. The Lenape Indians lived in the area before William Penn signed a treaty with the local chief and parceled the land to the Free Society of Traders in 1683. In 1720, Simon Butler bought over 150 acres of land, including the "Village of Chalfon" and built a home and mill. In 1869, the North Pennsylvania Railroad changed the name of the station to Chalfonte. In the Victorian era, a train-station was built which helped the community grow and brought about the construction of the many Victorian houses. The town is located within the Delaware Valley and has a Humid continental climate (Dfa Dfa climates are characterized by one month having a mean temperature of 32.0 °F (0 °C), at least four months with an average temperature of 50 °C (10 °F) The borough has a total area of 1.6 square miles (3 km²), all of which is land. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough has 1,6 sq miles (4 km²) of land. The area was once known as Barndtsville and the village was then known as Whitehallville. It was the home of William Penn's first wife, and William Penn is buried at Jordans Quaker Meeting House.

History

Originally, the Lenape Indians dwelled in present-day Chalfont. In 1683, William Penn signed a treaty with the local chief and parceled the land to the Free Society of Traders. Simon Butler bought over 150 acres of land in 1720. Between then and 1901, the area held several names, including Butler's Mill, Kungle's Tavern, Barndtsville, and Whitehallville. During the Victorian era, a train-station was built which helped the community grow and brought about the construction of the many Victorian houses. In 1885, the Forest Park started out as a small picnic ground where music could be played. As the park grew it became a small amusement park where local people could enjoy rides, a large swimming pool built in the 1930s, music (including string bands in the 1940s) and as the hosting ground for many company picnics. In 1968, the park closed its doors forever in 1968. The most important building in the area was the tavern and public house, which has burnt down many times and now stands as the Pop Inn. The village was then known as Barndtville and later as White Hallville. The North Pennsylvania Railroad changed the name of the station to Chalfon in 1869, the name was changed again in 1901 to the present day Chalfonte. The area was known as Kungles Tavern during the Revolutionary period and was later owned consecutively by James Morris, Lewis Morris, Abner Morris, then John BarNDt from Tylersport.

The highest air temperature was 102.7 °F (39.3 °C) on July 22, 2011, and the highest daily average mean dew point was 74.8 °F on August 3, 2016. Since 1981, the average annual extreme minimum air temperature is 0.6 °f (18.1 °C), and the coldest air temperature has been 11.9 °f on January 22, 1984. According to the A. W. Kuchler U.S. potential natural vegetation types, Chalfon would have a dominant vegetation type of Appalachian Oak (104) with a dominant. vegetation form of Eastern Hardwood Forest (25). As of the 2010 census, the borough was 92.7% Non-Hispanic White, 1.4% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 3.0% Asian, and 0.8% were two or more races. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,977 people, 1,382 households, and 1,039 families residing in the borough. The borough is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs from New Jersey to New Jersey. It is the only borough in New Jersey that is not part of the New York City subway system. It has a population of about 3,000. The population density is 2,365.8 people per square mile (912.6/km²). The racial makeup of the borough is 95.56% White,1.15% African American, 0.08%. Native American, 1.49% Asian. The census of 2010 showed that the borough had a total of 3,788 people, with 1,404 housing units. Arts and culture

The Chalfont Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains many American colonial and Victorian-style houses. Several of these are former residences which are currently occupied by businesses. The district is concentrated near the intersection of Butler Avenue (U.S. Route 202 Business) and North Main Street (Pennsylvania Route 152) and extend along North Main street. It is one of the largest historic districts in the state, with a population of more than 10,000. The area is home to the Pennsylvania Museum of Fine Arts, which was established in 1881. The museum is located in the historic district of Chalfon, Pennsylvania, and is open to the public every day. It also has a museum of fine arts, which opened in 1883, and an art museum, which is open every day of the year until the end of the summer. It was the first museum in Pennsylvania to be built in the 19th century, and the first in the United States to be completed in the early 20th century. It has a collection of 19th-century artworks, including many examples of Colonial Revival and Victorian architecture, as well as other works of art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The historic district was established by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in 1887. It includes the Pennsylvania State House, which dates back to the 17th century and is located on the corner of Butler and Main Streets. The Chalfon Historic District was named for the town's founder, William Chalfen, who was born in 1808.

Notable person

Bobby Shantz, 1952 American League Most Valuable Player, operated a popular bowling alley and diner with baseball players Joe Astroth and Shantz's brother Billy. The Pit-Catcher displayed Bobby's Golden Gloves, MVP trophy, and other baseball memorabilia. Bobby Shantz was a member of the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants. He played for the Yankees and the Mets from 1952 to 1964. Shantz is the brother of baseball player Billy Shantz. He was also the owner of a bowling alley, a diner, and a sports bar in New York City. He is also the father of former New York Giants pitcher Mike Shantz who played for New York from 1964 to 1966. He also played in the World Series for the Mets in 1966 and 1967. He died in a car accident in 1998. He has a son, Michael, who is a professional baseball player and a grandson, Jake, who plays for the San Diego Padres. He lives with his wife and two children in New Jersey, New Jersey and New York. The Shantz family also owns a golf course and a country club in New Hampshire. The family also has a restaurant and bar in San Francisco, called the Shantz Family Golf Course in the town of Ypsilanti, California. They also own a bowling center and a restaurant in San Diego, California, called Shantz Lanes. They have a daughter, Emily, who was born in 1998 and lives with her family in the San Francisco area.
