Benton is a town in Bossier Parish, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 2,048 in 2020. The larger Bossier City is located south of Benton. In Benton Square downtown, the town maintains several historical buildings, including primitive cabins, a one-room schoolhouse museum, and the boyhood home of William Clark Hughes, who was the Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1926 to 1928. History

On April 3, 1999, a powerful F4 tornado roared through portions of the town killing six people and injuring 90. The population of Benton lakefront area nearly doubled between 2004 and 2008. The Shreveport Kiwanis Invitational was held at the country club from 1965 to 1969. On December 31, 2014, the club closed after recruitment drives and restructuring of the membership plan failed to make the facility financially solvent. Owner John H. Ward invested $250,000 over the past year in a vain bid to keep the facility afloat. Ward added that Palmetto "is not alone in this struggle and two dominating factors are in play: memberships are decreasing nationwide, especially in the under-40 bracket; and the industry has been overbuilt making growth within golf clubs very difficult." The country club opened in 1954 and closed in 2014. The club is located on the banks of Cypress Lake in Benton, Louisiana, near the town's lakefront community of Bay Hills, Woodlake South, Twin Lake Community, and many other newer lakefront homes located around CypressLake. The country Club was built in 1954, and was named after a former president of the Louisiana National Guard. The current owner, John Ward, has run the club since 2013. The golf club was founded in 1954. It was named for a former U.S. President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, who died in office in 1969. The clubhouse is located near the city's lake-front area.

The United States Census Bureau estimates that Benton has a population of 1,788. The population of Benton was 1,838 at the time of the 2010 Census, and it has grown to 1,938 since then. It is the location of the Fort Bento National Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the National Park Service. The National Weather Service has also been based in the area since the 1950s, when it was first established. It has been known as Benton for more than 100 years, and is now known as the "Fort Benton National Park" The town's name is derived from the word Benton, which means "fort" or "home" in English.
